Olympia police have found the silver-colored 1993 Jeep Cherokee that they had sought in connection with the shooting death of an Olympia man Monday morning on Capitol Way.
Lt. Jim Costa said police recovered the vehicle Monday night in the parking lot of Fred Meyer at 700 Sleater-Kinney Road S.E. in Lacey. Police were acting on information that the victim, Shaun Allen Peterson, 40, was expected to drive the vehicle to the store. The vehicle belongs to Peterson’s girlfriend, police said.
Officers are looking for information from anyone who might have seen Peterson in or around the vehicle between about 9 p.m. Sunday and the time of the shooting, about 2:43 a.m. Monday. Police want to talk to anyone who might have seen the Jeep park or noticed the driver or any occupants get into another vehicle. To share information, call detective Chris Johnstone at 360-709-2793 or Thurston County Crime Stoppers at 360-493-2222.
Police say they have few clues in the shooting. Costa said Peterson’s associates have been uncooperative. Peterson was found dead of gunshot wounds, lying in a southbound lane in the 1700 block of Capitol Way. Shell casings littered the road.
