Two state Democrats given party awards
State Rep. Sam Hunt received a lifetime-achievement award over the weekend at the state Democrats' yearly Magnuson dinner in Seattle.
Hunt, an Olympia Democrat, is completing his fourth term in the House and is a former Thurston County Democratic Party chairman, Franklin County vice chairman and also a staff member years ago for the late Sen. Warren Magnuson in Washington, D.C. He is challenged in today's election by Republican Don Crawford.
"I was very honored," Hunt said, noting that his father, the late Don Hunt, received a similar award the first time it was given 15 years ago.
Also honored with a lifetime achievement honor was retiring Sen. Harriet Spanel, D-Bellingham, who for years has served as the caucus chair for Senate Democrats.
