Students earn bikes for reading efforts

Four Michael T. Simmons Elementary students recently received new bicycles after reaching their reading goals for the school year.

The students are Kaytlyn Jeffery, Giovanni Isola, Abigail Vieweg and Sebastian Kerson.

The third- and fourth-grade students at Michael T. Simmons were individually challenged with a reading goal for the school year. When they reached their goal, their names were entered into a drawing for four new bikes. Many students reached their reading goals, and earlier this month, the school had an assembly to honor all third- and fourth-graders.

The bikes were donated by Masonic Harmony Lodge No. 18. Paul Cooley, Rick Walk and Jim Mendoza from the Masonic Lodge came to the school to award the bikes and treat all the students to ice cream.
