Septic system workshop is Nov. 5
A free septic system maintenance workshop will be presented by WSU Mason County Extension and Mason County Public Health from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Shelton Timberland Regional Library, 710 W. Alder St., Shelton.
Participants will learn how on-site septic systems work, what maintenance and inspections they can do on their own, and when to call in the experts.

Conservation district celebrates 60 years
The Thurston Conservation District will have an open house to celebrate 60 years of service in Thurston County from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 5 at its office at 2918 Ferguson St. S.W., Building 1, Suite A, Tumwater.
Those attending the event can meet employees and board members of the conservation district, view photo displays from 60 years of conservation work, acknowledge annual award winners and learn about district projects over the past year.

Learn about fruiting plants at event
A workshop on fruiting native and non-native plants in the Henderson Inlet watershed will be offered by the Thurston Conservation District from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Lacey Timberland Regional Library, 500 College St. S.E., Lacey.
The workshop, which will focus on berry plants, is open to the public. Residents of the watershed who attend are eligible for a free bag of compost and five native plants.

Event in series to focus on Gandhi
The 2008-09 Earth Care Series offered by Earth Care Catholics and the Interfaith Works Stewardship Committee continues at 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at Traditions Cafe, 300 Fifth Ave. S.W., Olympia, with "An Interview with Gandhi: What Would Gandhi Do?"
Bernie Meyer, performing the role of Gandhi, will answer questions about sustainability at this free public event. A discussion will follow, and donations will be accepted.
Tree care topic of arborist's discussion
Homeowner association roles and responsibilities for tree care and maintenance will be discussed by Galen Wright, a certified master arborist and forester, at a meeting of neighborhood and homeowners associations in the Lacey area from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Lacey City Hall City Council Chambers, 420 College St. S.E., Lacey.
