LACEY — Members of the River Ridge High girls swim team have gone from battling nerves to fighting for state championships.

It's no secret the Black Hills Wolves' top offensive option is junior running back Cody Peterson. So it's only natural that when a team such as River Ridge comes flying hard at Peterson all game, the Wolves have a second and reliable option. At least in this game, it was quarterback Mike Haupert.

LACEY — Jessica Eakin scored three goals, and Stephanie Fischer added two, as the River Ridge girls soccer team finally broke into the win column with a 5-1 victory over the Elma Eagles on Tuesday night.

LACEY — River Ridge sophomore Jacob Damian covered 1.6 miles in 8 minutes, 13 seconds to win individual honors as the young Hawks claimed the Lacey City Championship in a three-way cross country meet with North Thurston and Timberline.
Last season, River Ridge qualified for a three-way tie-breaker that determined the Evergreen Conference's fourth and final playoff spot. The Hawks lost the tiebreaker but laid the foundation for this year.
