Outdoors Blog

I'm interested in hearing from readers -- whether it's a weird bird flying around their backyard to the big fish that broke them off over the weekend to skiing down a favorite run. callen@theolympian.com.

It's an outdoor blog!

02/20/2006 – Isn't it amazing how much of the outdoors is indoors these days?

It seems like there's 20 billion Web sites for every outdoor activity. If you don't believe me, go to Google and type in fly fishing, camping, skiing or even cave diving.

Amazing!

But the Internet is for nights or when you're finishing up the last of the Captain Crunch cereal early in the morning. And that's the times I hope you'll drop by -- when it just isn't happening outdoors.

Does this means logging in from work? You bet!

I spent some time in the Columbia River Gorge this past weekend, and frozen waterfalls gleamed on the dark basalt canyon walls. I think they're amazing, but Heather McCurdy, a good friend who lives in Hood River, had a different take.

"They look like giant loogies from the sky," she said.

Whatever. Frozen waterfalls are gorgeous.
