I'm interested in hearing from readers -- whether it's a weird bird flying around their backyard to the big fish that broke them off over the weekend to skiing down a favorite run. callen@theolympian.com.

03/20/2006 – It's always better to go outdoors than online, but I've found an exception to that rule.

The National Geographic Society has a live webcam that gives all of us a fantastic view of the massive sandhill crane migration at the Platte River in Nebraska.

I've seen these big, beautiful wading birds in eastern Oregon -- the red patch on their heads is the giveaway -- but 500,000 of them are now staging in Nebraska on their journey to breeding grounds in the arctic.

It's an amazing sight, and if you can't make it to Nebraska this spring, log onto http://magma.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/cranecam/cam.html You can also see video clips of these stunning, squawking birds.

There also is a great new birding show on channel 22 or 29. The show is called Birdwise, and it's on at 8:30 p.m. Thursdays and 1 p.m. Sundays. The show has lots of great information on brids, birding events and bird feeding.
