The Olympian puts emphasis on exclusive local news
Why don't you put the kiddie sports info with the lifestyles section? You have to many photos and articles of kids in an adult section. Real sports fans are bored with this -- not to mention visitors to the area who may be searching for national sports info. Where's the racing or hockey news -- or are they not feminine enough for you?And your headline news stories. With all the BIG news happening, you focus on some trivial birthday party -- you ignore key military, financial and catastrophic events as if they aren't important or didn't occur. -- Tonka JenningsExecutive Editor Vickie Kilgore: In the sports section of a community newspaper, as The Olympian is, our mission is to provide a lot of local news with some regional and national news. An important part of that local information is high school and community sports. It's information readers can't find anywhere else. Our readership market is dominated by families who have children still in school -- this is information they tell us they want and the Sports section is where they expect to find it. Likewise our main news sections focus on local news. Again, that is information that readers can find nowhere else.
