Volunteers

The city of Lacey offers several opportunities for residents to become involved as community volunteers:

- Neighborhood Centers volunteers help with homework, tutor, read with children, assist with arts and crafts, and oversee recreational and sports activities. 360-493-2230, ext. 13

- Community Clubhouses provide students with safe and supportive after-school settings. Adults and peer mentors provide homework and academic help, recreational options and community service projects to students. 360-412-4466

- Drug-Free Communities Program, sponsored by Together, is committed to helping the community promote safe and healthy activities for youths. Volunteers can become involved in Lacey-area efforts to create an environment that reduces teen use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. 360-493-2230, ext. 13

- Lunch Buddy Program volunteers spend one lunch hour a week with students. Activities include eating lunch together, reading, talking, working on computers, and enjoying recess games. 360-412-4471

- Windows on the World of Work one-day job-shadowing experience for eighth-grade students at your place of business. 360-412-4471

- North Thurston School District's Bridge Project designed to enhance fourth- through eighth-grade students' resiliency and prevent the use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco. 360-412-4466

- Stream Team involves citizens in the protection and enhancement of local water resources through education and action. 360-753-8454

- Animal Services volunteers needed every day during working hours, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
