Natalie Daniels scored the equalizer off an assist from Kelsey Fuik in the 20th minute, and Sammi Thompson knocked in the winner off an assist from Tina Schicchi in the 36th.
"Gig Harbor was tied with Central Kitsap in first," Olympia coach Tessa Effland said. "The girls pulled together. A junior varsity freshman, Natalie Gimson, started. I'm so proud of her. She definitely made a difference filling up the spots for our injured players."
Olympia keeper Hana Klimek had eight saves as the Bears improved to 5-1 in the league.
"It was a great opportunity to rally and come back," Effland said. "You have injuries, every team does, but the team that can come back from that is amazing. The girls played their hearts out on the field."
Boys golf
Timberline 199, North Thurston 229
Timberline beat the weather and North Thurston in a matchup between Class 3A Western Cascade Conference rivals.
"I was really impressed with how well we played in the elements," Timberline coach Don Backman said. "The kids were really impressive. Just getting started, it was pretty nasty and cold all day with the thunder and rain. It was really impressive."
Cameron Peck and Scott Gagnon paced the Blazers with 1-over 37s at Capitol City Golf Course. Teammate John Jordan was close behind with 38.
The win improves Timberline's record to 4-0 in the WCC.
C.J. Paulsen (42) had the low score for North Thurston.
Boys tennis
Yelm 3, Clover Park 0
Yelm picked up the victory in a weather-shortened WCC match against Clover Park.
Jeremy Steves and Min Lee, in the Tornados' Nos. 1 and 2 singles players, respectively, and Cody Leimback and Louis DeGeyer, in No. 1 doubles, all won 6-0, 6-0.
Yelm is 4-7 in the league.
Olympia 5, Wilson 0
Olympia topped Wilson in a Class 4A Narrows League match that also was shortened by adverse weather.
The only completed match was Olympia's Preetam Talukdar against Wilson's Jacob Peterson in No. 2 singles. Talukdar won 6-0, 6-0. Olympia was leading each of the other matches.
"It was very gusty and windy," Olympia coach Denny Bailey said. The Bears next play against Stadium at 3 p.m. today at the University of Puget Sound's covered courts.
"If we win (today), we'll be playing for second place in the league at Gig Harbor" next Tuesday, Bailey said.
Volleyball
Capital 3, Clover Park 0
Capital's Caitlin McIver had 12 kills and four blocks, and teammate Brenna Peterson notched 27 assists to lead the Cougars past the Warriors.
"We started slow in the first couple of games, but picked it up in the last game," Capital coach Natalie Zukowski said. "Caitlin and Brenna led the team tonight. And we played really well as a team."
Brittany Lawrence had eight digs and six aces to help Capital improve its WCC record to 6-1.
N. Thurston 3, Shelton 1
After losing the first game to Shelton by two points, the North Thurston Rams took three straight to win the match.
"Today started the second half of the season," North Thurston coach Micah McBride said. "The second time through, you kind of know them better. ... Tonight, we served pretty good - kept them on their heels a little bit with good serving. We got good play out of Nicole Nelson in the middle."
Nelson had 12 kills, 11 digs, four aces and one block for North Thurston.
Shelton coach Steve Morgan said the Rams' Monika Karney was a difference-maker.
"We had trouble stopping Monika," Morgan said. "She didn't play the first game, but she came in, and we didn't have an answer foer her. We served well, but our defense let us down."
Michelle Davis had five kills and 10 digs, and Marissa Hill added six kills and two blocks for Shelton, which fell to 2-5 in the WCC and 2-7 overall.
North Thurston improved to 4-5 in the WCC.
"Next week, we play Capital and Timberline, so we're looking forward to those matches," McBride said.
Lakes 3, Timberline 2
When the Lakes Lancers scored the final point in the fifth game against the Blazers, it meant a lot to Lakes coach Chuck Carone.
"In my 35 years as a coach, 15 in high school, tonight's win, for me personally, was one of the biggest in my career," Carone said.
Timeberline had been predicted to be the WCC champion. The win puts Lakes in a three-way tie with Timberline and Capital.
"Senior middle blocker Alex Zawadzki and sophomore center Deedra Foss, the two captians, set an example with character and effort and belief," Carone said. "They're the heartbeat of the team."
Zawadzki had 17 kills and three blocks. Foss had 10 kills and eight blocks. Tori Foss added 15 digs for Lakes.
"We're glad to be hanging around," Carone said of his team's chances to win the league.
Timberline's coach, Krista Manke, appreciated the play on both sides of the court.
"It was a really good match," Manke said. "Both sides did a lot of hard rallying. Lakes is a good team. Our girls in the fifth game weren't playing as smart as they had been playing."
Megan Birge had 36 assists and two aces for Timberline, which fell to 5-2 overall.
Cross country
TUMWATER SWEEPS WOLVES
Christine Alexander won the girls race at Millersylvania State Park by a whopping two minutes to lead the Tumwater Thunderbirds to a 26-30 victory over Black Hills.
On the boys side, Nate Duray finished the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 34 seconds to help the Tumwater boys win 18-41.
Steven Acosta took second for the Tumwater boys, finishing in 16:57. Black Hills' Eric Walsh took third in 16:57.
Alexander ran away from the pack in the girls race and crossed the finish line in 19:17. Her closest competitor was Black Hills' Jen Risenhoover (21:17). Tumwater's Amanda Deck finished on Risenhoover's heels, taking third place in 21:19.
EAGLES TAKE TOP TWO SPOTS
Elma's Mike Vest and Cody Sisco took the top two spots in the boys race at a three-way dual at Vance Creek Park in Elma.
Vest completed the 2.75-mile course in 14:42, with Sisco finishing in 15:13 to help the Eagles beat Chehalis 23-33.
Chehalis' Dakota Parker took third in 15:20 but couldn't keep the Bearcats from also losing to Aberdeen, 23-32.
"Dakota Parker went out quick with (Vest and Sisco) and was able to hold his own most of the race," Chehalis coach Amber Cruzan said.
The Chehalis girls picked up a pair of victories, beating Aberdeen 23-32 and defeating an incomplete Elma squad 15-50. Caroline Austin took first for the Bearcats, finishing in 17:20.
"She ran out front by herself the entire race," Cruzan said. "Caroline is really good at pushing herself in those situations."
