Delavar persona non grata with GOP

• Published August 29, 2008

The Republican who won a spot in the 3rd Congressional District race last week won't be getting any help from the Republican Party. Michael Delavar, a Ron-Paul type, wasn't endorsed before the contest, and lost out again afterwards.

"I fully expect that Republicans will rally behind me in the general election. I think it's a bigger issue than my race," said Delavar. He explained he thinks his race, in which Christine Webb got the GOP nod, may be used as an example of the shortcomings of the Top 2 system, which the parties loathe.

Part of a lawsuit against the system? Nobody seemed to know for sure, including Thurston County Republican Party Chairman Dan Cathers.

"I would describe that as unusual," Cathers said of the snub. "I don’t believe that was probably the best choice, but I was in a minority in that opinion. That’s probably all I want to say about it."

No endorsement means no money from the party for Delavar, and perhaps more importantly, no access to the Voter Vault. And no, I don’t have a password.

UPDATE: It took the candidate to point it out, but I fixed some letter-swapping in the first paragraph.
