I am very excited about John McCains choice of Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. I spent some time in Alaska over the summer and realize then she would make a great choice. She challenged the status quo in Alaska; shell do the same in Washington DC.
John McCains stand on pork projects earmarks is exactly what this county needs! Governor Palins record matches that very well. I have complained alongside every other American about the infamous Bridge to Nowhere, it was great to have a VP nominee who saved us the taxpayers $400 million dollars by stopping it.
Being from Alaska, she understands the issues around energy. She has challenged the influence of big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us -- Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.
The McCain campaigns timing VP announcement is nothing short of brilliant. I would expect CNN, MSNBC, FOX and all the media to be focused on Obamas acceptance speech. In fact, I thought it would dominate the headlines through Sunday. Surfing the net, it seemed the only mention of Barrack was in paid advertising. That had to be a disappointment to the Obama campaign.
Governor Palin as the VP nominee also brings about an interesting quandary. When Betty Friedan wrote the National Organization for Womens Statement of Purpose in 1966, she described the purpose of NOW as "to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now. . . in truly equal partnership with men." Therefore, it certainly made sense for Kim Gandy, NOWs President since 2001, to be an ardent supporter of Hillary Clinton. I perused their website, I could not find where they supported a single Republican candidate. Enter Sarah Palin. I think this is an excellent opportunity for Kim Gandy to move beyond partisanship.
I spent this morning with a former Ron Paul delegate fixing Dino Rossi signs that had been vandalized. As we talked about the rally Congressman Paul is planning in Minneapolis we realized the need for the Republican tent to be a big one, and that we both look forward to working together to elect our nominee. I hope the rally will be a good opportunity for us to unite
