Mitchell always came across as intelligent and urbane, and appropriately so: as his career included such urban projects as working on the London Docklands development, and later a masters degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan before earning his law degree, setting up shop In Seattle, and coming to work for Gregoire.
So far, he stands out as the only high-profile departure from Gregoire's team since her re-election. (I think Mitchell's offices were moved from the Capitol to the General Administration Building unintentional incentive to depart?)
I asked Gregoire spokesman Pearse Edwards about any other changes in the administration.
"There hasn't been any announcements that I'm aware of," he said.
Worth noting, there was a significant change over before campaign season, back in 2007. That included the departure of Tom Fitzsimmons, her chief of staff, former Transportation Secretary Doug MacDonald, and Corrections Secretary Harold Clarke.
