A section of state Route 507 was closed for two and a half hours Sunday after a Lacey man crashed a motorcycle into a propane tank outside of Yelm about noon.

The road was closed in both directions between 12:30 and 3 p.m. as the South County Fire and EMS drained the leaky tank so the motorcycle could be moved safely, Washington Department of Transportation spokeswoman Emily Pace said.

Traffic was backed up about 4 miles in each direction, she said.

Troopers continue to investigate how a northbound 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle ridden by Oscar Anthony Torres, 44, left the roadway and crashed into a propane tank at Stewart's Meat Market, 17821 State Route 507.

Torres, and his passenger, Loretta Ortega, 54, of Pasco received minor injuries in the crash, according to an accident memo released by the Washington State Patrol. Torres wore a helmet and Ortega wore a safety restraint, according to the State Patrol.
