Bonnie Medlin: Would like to attend art school, admires the Dalai Lama

THE OLYMPIAN

Age: 16

Grade: 11

School: Avanti High School

Hometown: Olympia

Parents: Katie Kemp and Richard Medlin

Best personal achievement: I solved the Rubik’s cube before anyone else in class and that was pretty neat.

How I spend my time: I enjoy throwing a Frisbee around, spending time with the people I care about, learning how to play the guitar, working out and taking photos.

Favorite subjects: I’ve always been an English person, but lately I’ve become very interested in science. Art will always be my No. 1 though.

Favorite movies: I can’t choose just one! “Lord of the Rings” takes the cake, although “Beyond Borders,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Religulous” and “Mulan” also top my list.

Favorite book: “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger.

Dream job: I’m very interested in the brain and psychology. But, then again, I’d love to be a wedding planner or an interior designer.

Someone I respect: The Dalai Lama

College I’d like to attend: Some sort of art school

Someone famous I’d like to meet: The cast from “Ace of Cakes”

Someday, looking back on my life I’d like to be able to say: I was happy, and that I contributed to this world in a personal way

Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: It’s different for everyone. From what I’ve noticed, teens are faced with a lot of pressure from their parents on whom they should be and what they should do with their future.

One thing in the world I would change if I could: I wish all people were aware of their impact on the world.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Possibly traveling.

Staff comment: Bonnie is a student leader on our campus. She is one of those students that is involved in everything, but rarely finds herself in the spotlight even though she deserves to be. She is a gifted student, incredible gymnast and incredible ambassador for our school.
