Turnout was estimated at nearly 27 percent, up from the 21.9 percent estimated Tuesday. A total of 23,331 ballots have been counted; updated counts are expected to be released at 5 p.m. today.
In Olympia City Council Position 4, Karen Rogers and Karen Veldheer likely will face each other in the November election in a bid to replace departing Councilwoman Karen Messmer. Amy Tousley finished third in voting. In Olympia City Council Position 5, Stephen Buxbaum and incumbent Jeff Kingsbury likely will face off, with Janine Gates finishing third.
Karen Valenzuela and Patrick Beehler remained well ahead of third-place candidate Dan Venable in the race for the Thurston County Commissioner District 3 post. They will face each other in November.
Voters in Fire Protection District No. 6 approved a levy-lid lift. Those in the Yelm Fire District rejected creating a regional fire authority along with the Rainier district and the city of Yelm, while those in Rochester and Littlerock approved forming a fire authority.
In the Tumwater mayoral race, Pete Kmet and Neil McClanahan were the top two vote-getters. However, McClanahan led third-place candidate Joan Cathey by only 34 votes.
