Twitter Inc., the social-networking service that delivers 140-character messages, plans to start letting users share their locations when they post Tweets.

The feature, which relies on the Global Positioning System, will require users’ permission before it shows locations, Biz Stone, co-founder of San Francisco-based Twitter, said Thursday.

“It records location along with every Tweet,” he said. “It allows for some really interesting context. It adds value to the Twitter ecosystem.”

The service will be available in the next two or three weeks, Stone said.
