Yelm High School FFA gets $2,000 to push safe drivingTHE OLYMPIAN
"Project Tornado - Destroying Bad Driving Habits," a project of the Yelm High School Future Farmers of America, is one of 25 projects selected to participate in State Farm Insurance Co.’s 2009-2010 Project Ignition program. Yelm FFA will receive a $2,000 grant from the National Youth Leadership Council. Project Tornado will focus on distracted driving, impaired driving and seat belt safety. It will include lesson plans for classroom use, billboards, brochures, DVDs, public service announcements and activity booths to spread the message of driver safety. Ten of the 25 schools will be chosen as finalists in February, and will have the opportunity to present their campaigns at the 21st Annual National Service-Learning Conference in San Jose, Calif., March 24-27. One school will be chosen as “Best of the Best” and awarded a $10,000 grant from NYLC through funding provided by State Farm Companies Foundation to further its project.
