Chehalis' Parker sets course record at jamboree

Chehalis’ Dakota Parker set a course record at the Gordy Robertson cross country jamboree, Wednesday at Tenino City Park.

Parker clocked in at 9 minutes, 32 seconds to break the course by 6 seconds. He won the junior/senior boys race.

“He looked very strong as he came off the hill,” Chehalis cross country coach Amber Cruzan said. “The downhill was quite rough but we were able to keep are feet underneath us and avoid any injuries.”

The meet also was highlighted by Tumwater’s Kendra Wilson, who won the junior/senior girls race in 12:02.71. Tenino’s Chloe Hanson, a freshman, made a solid cross country debut by winning the freshmen/sophomore girls race in 13:36.07.

Girls swimming

North Thurston 91, Peninsula 90: The Rams’ Katy Tiernan was the team’s lone individual winner. She won two events – the 50 freestyle (29.81 seconds) and 100 freestyle (1:06.34). She also was part of the winning 200 free relay (2:03.04).

Capital 133, Bonney Lake 37: The Cougars won all the events in which they had swimmers competed in during their nonleague win over the Panthers.

Amanda Clark was a double winner for the Cougars, taking the 100 backstroke and 100 breastroke. She also was a part of two of the Cougars’ winning relays.

Volleyball

North Thurston 3, Franklin Pierce 0: Senior outside hitter Taylor Stoeckle had 10 kills, and Marissa Stroud had 11 digs to lead North Thurston (2-0) to a 25-8, 25-14, 25-18 win.
