BREMERTON - Just how would the Timberline Blazers respond after giving up a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the opening seconds against Bremerton?

They’d erupt for 47 straight points.

The ninth-ranked Blazers improved to 4-0 with a 54-24 win over the Knights on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

“We did some things well,” Timberline coach Nick Mullen said. “We weren’t crisp, but you can’t complain about a win. We played well.”

Bremerton’s Charles Wilson ran back the opening kickoff, evading a few tackles for the 97-yard touchdown. But the Blazers answered in a big way.

Their 47 first-half points are their most in the first half this season. On Timberline’s first offensive possession, Kevin Russell scored on a 25-yard quarterback keeper. On its next possession, Russell found Emmanuel Sloan in the end zone for a 28-yard TD pass to make it 14-6.

Timberline scored four touchdowns in the second quarter, including Delas Raiford’s 66-yard TD run and 5-yard run.

Jordan Radcliffe picked up a few blocks on a 16-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, Timberline’s only score in the second half. Radcliffe finished with 119 yards on 14 carries.

Tumwater 29, Aberdeen 22: The Tumwater Thunderbirds had the upper hand in the back-and-fourth battle on the harbor and recovered an on-side kick late in the fourth quarter to hand Aberdeen its first loss.

Tumwater scored two quick touchdowns in the first quarter, but Aberdeen had the momentum going into the locker room at halftime with a 15-14 lead.

“They moved the ball right down the field on us,” Tumwater coach Sid Otton said. “They had more organized drives, and we couldn’t get them off the field.”

T-Birds quarterback Kyle Warner had 159 yards rushing on 13 carries and one rushing touchdown. Fullback Payten Olson rushed for 121 yards on 14 carries.

After Aberdeen scored to pull within 29-22, the Bobcats tried an onside kick, but Tumwater recovered.

“I was happy to see how our kids responded coming into the second half,” Otton said.

Otton also noted the play of Michael Glasgo, who had two interceptions on defense.

Northwest Christian 32, North Beach 12: For the first time in school history, the Navigators put up 32 points and are now winners of two straight. Last week, Northwest Christian (2-2) defeated Seattle Lutheran.

Juniors Ben Connor and Steven Dunn combined for 195 yards rushing and five touchdowns against visiting North Beach. Dunn also had a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown. Northwest Christian had 240 yards rushing.

“Ben and Steven are quite the tandem,” Northwest Christian coach Pete Fulton said.

Northwest Christian made the most of its opportunities, especially in the first half.

“Their time of possession in the first half was twice as ours,” Fulton said.

North Thurston 31, Port Angeles 21: The Rams improve to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the Class 3A Olympic Western League after their 10-point win at South Sound Stadium. No other information was reported.

Toledo 20, Rainier 7: Kevin Voleski’s 60-yard touchdown catch from Aaron Riley in the fourth quarter was the Mountaineers’ lone score in their Class 1A Southwest Washington Evergreen Division loss.

Montesano 55, Rochester 0: For the fourth consecutive game, the top-ranked Bulldogs didn’t allowed a point. Gabe West and Ryan Campbell scored four of Montesano’s rushing TDs as the Bulldogs built a 42-0 lead.
