Lindsay McCoy: She aspires to become a Northwest artist

THE OLYMPIAN

Age: 17

Grade: 12

School: Tumwater High School

Hometown: Tumwater

Parents: Mary Amandes and Bob McCoy

Best personal achievement: Becoming the senior editor of the Tumwater Talon newspaper and Student of the Month for English.

How I spend my time: Drawing, reading, volunteering or hanging out with friends.

Favorite subjects: Art, journalism, Japanese and anatomy.

Favorite movie: I have too many favorites, but my current one is “The Illusionist.”

Favorite book: “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte.

Dream job: To be a well-known freelance artist, doing artistic works of all kinds ranging from graphic design to paintings.

Someone I respect: There are definitely many people I respect in my life, but it was my seventh-grade English teacher, Mr. Aaron Davis, who left the biggest impression on me. He helped me realize that I had the potential to be a greater student, and helped me become involved in more challenging classes. Most importantly, he taught me what it means to work hard and set goals, no matter what background you’re from. Without him, I may not have been the high-achieving student I am today.

College I’d like to attend: Northwest College of the Arts

Someone famous I’d like to meet: President Barack Obama. He has taught me that you shouldn’t be afraid to try new ideas and that you can change the world no matter who you are.

Someday, looking back on my life I’d like to be able to say: I don’t have any regrets whatsoever, and that I worked hard to achieve many or all the goals I have set.

Biggest challenge facing teenagers today: Finding a job or being able to afford gas

One thing in the world I would change if I could: Global warming/pollution

Where do you see yourself in 10 years: I see myself staying here in the Northwest, hopefully living in a comfortable home with a large art studio. I hope to be making paintings, drawings, and computer graphics of all kinds. Most importantly, I hope to achieve a respectable reputation as an artist, pursuing the job of my dreams, and still being able to make a comfortable living.

Staff comment: “Lindsay has repeatedly proven her dedication and maturity. She does a great job of devoting herself fully to each task she undertakes, and her focus and attitude allow her to succeed as Talon senior editor. Lindsay will go far in life because of her drive.” Kristin Marciochi, teacher, Tumwater High School.
