The director of the W.F. West High School band in Chehalis, Geoff Gilbert, was killed in a traffic accident.

The school district said Gilbert also was a member of the Yakima Symphony and Brass Ensemble and Northwest Wind Symphony as well as a substitute with the Olympia Jazz Senators.

The 42-year-old Napavine man was headed home early Tuesday from a Jazz Senators performance in Olympia when his motorcycle rear-ended a pickup in foggy conditions on Interstate 5.
