A Washington State Patrol trooper has filed a $3 million lawsuit against the man accused of shooting him in the head in Long Beach.

Trooper Scott Johnson’s lawyer filed suit Thursday against Martin A. Jones, 45, of Seaview, who was arrested this week on investigation of assault and attempted murder.

Jones has been ordered held in the Pacific County Jail in South Bend with bail set at $5 million.

Jones is the husband of a woman whose van was being towed early Saturday after a drunken-driving stop, court papers state. The trooper was supervising the impounding of the van when he was shot in the back of the head.

The trooper was released earlier this week from a Portland hospital and is on medical leave. He reportedly still has bullet fragments lodged in his head. His lawyer said Johnson is disabled for the time being, and it is unknown what his long-term prognosis might be.
