TACOMA - It was over.

Only six seconds remained in the Yelm-Capital girls 3A state basketball playoff game in the Tacoma Dome on Friday. Yelm seemed a certain winner.

But with Yelm clinging to a one-point lead, Capital’s all-league guard Tosha Hollingsworth hit the game winner at the buzzer, hitting a lay-in and giving the Cougars a wild 42-41 comeback victory.

Yelm led 36-25 late in the third quarter.

But Capital outscored the Tornadoes 15-5 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.

With six seconds left, Yelm missed the front end of a one-and-one. Capital’s Kelsey Antles rebounded and passed to Hollingsworth at halfcourt.

“I just wanted to get as far as I could go,” Hollingsworth said.

Capital’s team swarmed the court at the end of the game and the players celebrated.

“I just wanted to cry,” Hollingsworth said. “There were way too many emotions.”

Hollingsworth finished a team-high 17 points.

“It was time for me to step up,” said Hollingsworth, who was held to one field goal in the fourth quarter.

It was a joyous win for Capital and stinging loss for Yelm.

"A buzzer beater hurts worse because you’re right in it and all of a sudden you lose," Yelm's Katelyn Smith said.

Capital plays in the consolation finals at 11:30 Saturday morning against East Valley, a 52-43 winner against Lakes.

It’s just the third time in school history Capital will medal at state.
