David Castillo has won endorsement of FreedomWorks PAC, a right-of-center group with ties to the Tea Party, in his Republican campaign for Congress in the 3rd district.
Castillo was one of the first Republicans to get into the race before U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Vancouver, announced he would retire. He also is one of four House challengers across the country to win support from the group, which is led by former U.S. House Majority leader Dick Armey of Texas, according to a news release Castillo posted to his web site.
Politico reports that the FreedomWorks endorsement is “raising the prospect of a divisive Republican primary between Castillo and Washington state Rep. Jaime Herrera.’’ It also says:
Castillo has connections to FreedomWorks through its predecessor Citizens for a Sound Economy, as this post points out.
Herrera supporters plan a reception for her in Olympia on Thursday evening.
