Flood plan coming for Chehalis River
THE OLYMPIANIn the first week of April, the Chehalis River Basin Flood Authority will unveil a revised version of what could become a uniform basinwide flood-hazard-management plan, according to The Chronicle of Centralia. Upcoming meetings will allow residents of Thurston, Lewis and Grays Harbor counties to ask questions and give feedback on the current plan. “This is the public’s opportunity to make comments and have their comments put in the plan,” said Terry Willis, a Grays Harbor County commissioner and the chairman of the flood authority. “This isn’t us bringing a plan forward and asking the public to agree with it.” Adopting the plan could reap financial benefits to residents in some communities. The new plan could also lower flood insurance rates, said Ron Averill, a Lewis County commissioner and vice chairman of the flood authority.
