Suicide stops Interstate-5 traffic Tuesday morning

April 13, 2010

Olympia Police officers responded to a call to the Capitol Boulevard bridge at around 2:29 a.m. Tuesday, on a report of a suicidal male who was leaning over the fence.

When officers arrived, the man was outside the railing on the east side of the bridge. For more than an hour, officers attempted to talk the man off the bridge, but the man jumped to his death on the north bound lanes of Interstate-5. Lanes were closed for more than three hours after the incident.

The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of family members, but he is known to be a 41-year-old Olympia resident.
