Dick's Sporting Goods plans to open its first Washington store Friday in Puyallup's South Hill Mall.

Dick’s will occupy the remodeled space once leased by two now-bankrupt retailers, Linens ‘n’ Things and Circuit City.

The 60,000-square-foot space is the last major anchor space available at the mall which, like most major malls, suffered from vacancies brought on by the recession.

The mall has filled another major vacant space, the former Mervyn’s store, with a second JC Penney store.

Dick’s operates in 40 states with most of its 400-some stores concentrated in the eastern half of the country.

The mall late last year completed a multi-million dollar makeover to update its 22-year-old retail spaces.

South Hill is owned by Cafaro Co. real estate in Youngstown, Ohio.
