Catholic Health Initiatives - parent of Franciscan Health System in Tacoma - plans to hire more than 200 information technology specialists across the country in the next year.

Several of those folks are expected to be hired in the Tacoma area, said Gale Robinette, media relations manager for Franciscan. Robinette declined to say how many new hires would be made locally.

The plan is to create an electronic health record, among other things.

Franciscan operates five hospitals in the region: St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma; St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor; St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood; St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way; and Enumclaw Regional Hospital .
