Supporters of a ballot measure to privatize liquor sales say they have collected well over the required number of signatures to make the November ballot, and plan to turn in their petitions today, according to the Secretary of State's Office.

I-1100 is backed by Costco and would take the state out of the liquor-sales business, turning it over to private distributors and stores.

The campaign told elections officials it has collected nearly 347,000 signatures, far more than the 241,153 valid signatures needed. The elections staff will check a random sample of the signatures for validity.

Meanwhile, backers of tax-rollback Initiative 1107 have told elections officials to expect petitions the morning of July 2, the last day to turn them in.

The I-1107 campaign has told the Secretary of State’s Office it will turn in roughly 340,000 signatures, 100,000 more than required, in support of repealing the new taxes on soda pop, candy, gum, bottled water and certain food processing businesses.

Also the Building Industry Association of Washington expects to meet the deadline to turn in the signatures for their measure to allow the private-sector sale of workers compensation insurance.

The quick pace of signature gathering comes during a record setting year for initiatives filed – 77.
