SEATTLE - The Seattle city attorney's office charged state Rep. Geoff Simpson of Covington with assault Thursday for allegedly shoving his ex-wife. Simpson says the accusation is untrue.

he Daily Herald of Everett reports Seattle police investigated a confrontation May 22 at a hospital where Simpson went to visit his daughter who had surgery.

A social worker told police she saw Simpson barrel into the hospital room, push his ex-wife and shut the door. Simpson says his ex-wife grabbed his arm to keep him from entering the room, and he just pushed the door shut before briefly talking to his daughter and leaving.

Simpson was arrested after a confrontation with his ex-wife in 2008, but Covington's prosecutor later dropped the charge.
