RECREATION BRIEF: Barron Park Striders win Jr. Olympic medals

Six track and field athletes from Barron Park Striders club earned medals at the U.S. National Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento over the weekend. The top-eight placers in each event earned medals.

Olivia Midles, a recent graduate of Capital High School, won the girls hammer throw (17-18 age group) with a toss of 173 feet, 9 inches. Jordan Arakawa, also a recent Capital graduate, placed second in the boys hammer (17-18 age group) at 213-7.

Other medalists included: Karen Bulger in the javelin (second), Heaven Kelley in the high jump (fifth) and triathlon (sixth), Brooke Feldmeier in the pentathlon (seventh), and Kat Copeland in the 3,000-meter run (eighth).
