According to the report, a 70-year-old Shelton man driving a 2005 Mercury Sable traveling in lane two near Exit 77 had slowed for traffic and stopped. A 64-year-old Orting man driving a 2010 Toyota Camry behind the Mercury had also slowed to a stop. A 27-year-old Vancouver man failed to stop his 2006 Toyota Prius and rear-ended the Camry, pushing it into the Mercury.
The Shelton man was not injured in the accident and his car sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
The Orting man was not injured but two young girls - ages 8 and 10 - who were riding in the car were transported to Centralia Providence Hospital with neck pain. A 37-year-old Orting woman also in the car was not hurt. The Camry sustained approximately $6000 in damage and was towed from the scene.
Neither the Vancouver man or a 33-year-old Vancouver woman riding with him was hurt. The Prius sustained approximately $4000 in damage and was towed.
It is unknown if the Shelton driver was wearing a seat belt. Everyone else was reported to be wearing one.
The Patrol said inattention and following too closely caused the collisions and charges are pending against the Prius driver. Neither alcohol or drugs are believed involved.
