Dreamliner's engine fails test in England

John Gillie, staff writer

An engine like the ones used on Boeing's first 787 Dreamliner test aircraft failed earlier this month on a ground test stand in England.

Rolls-Royce, the engine maker, said the failure of the Trent 1000 engine is being studied. It said it expects the issue won’t delay the engine program.

Jon Ostrower, FlightGlobal’s Flightblogger, reported that the failure seems unlikely to affect Boeing’s test schedule for the aircraft.

Rolls-Royce is developing an improved Trent 1000 to be installed on later production aircraft.

General Electric is also producing an engine for the twin jet.
