A 30-year-old Covington man was killed early Saturday when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle in the Hilltop.

Darnell Chocklon had been riding his motorcycle without a helmet, Tacoma police reported. Officers spotted him driving in a reckless manner on Sixth Avenue early Saturday. Police tried to stop the motorcyclist but he fled at a high rate of speed.

About 10 minutes later, citizens reported the motorcyclist had been struck by a vehicle at South Ninth Street and South Ainsworth Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., police reported.

The vehicle fled, police reported. Chocklon died at the scene.

The Tacoma Police Department's accident investigation team was called out to investigate the deadly crash.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver of the vehicle has been located.
