Tacoma man, 55, killed in crash on I-5 overpass

A 55-year-old Tacoma man was killed Tuesday night when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a pole on South 38th Street in Tacoma.

Steven Brooks died at the scene, Tacoma police reported. An autopsy to determined his cause of death is scheduled for today, the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office reports.

The crash occurred about 7:50 p.m. Brooks had been eastbound on 38th Street when his vehicle hit the pole on the overpass over Interstate 5, Tacoma police reported.

The Tacoma Police Department's fatality accident team responded and investigated the crash.

The crash closed the ramp from southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound 38th Street in Tacoma. The ramp was reopened just before 2:30 a.m.
