OLYMPIA: Event will raise funds to repair historic chairs

A fundraiser to help fix up state Capitol furnishings is set for Thursday at the State Capital Museum.

The state Capitol Furnishings Preservation Committee is charging $25 per person to raise cash to refurbish leather-clad chairs in the governor’s conference room. Committee and state funds were used recently to refinish the historic table in that room, which ultimately cost $14,381.57 to repair, said Supreme Court Justice Gerry Alexander, a committee co-chairman.

The Department of General Administration paid $5,000 and the committee paid $9,381.57 for the table, an amount that was more than original estimates. Alexander said the next goal is to start on an estimated two dozen historic chairs that have damaged leather coverings.

The “Night at the Museum” event includes a barbecue, refreshments and a raffle, as well as remarks from Lt. Gov. Brad Owen.
