Two Lacey squad cars followed the green Pontiac Grand Am being driven by Kyle Collins, 27, of Rochester, over the embankment at Rainier Vista Park, putting both patrol vehicles out of commission, according to Lacey police Lt. Jim Mack.
Mack said the amount of the damages to the patrol cars is being evaluated.
Collins ran from the Pontiac because it was inoperable after it drove over the embankment, but he was located a short time later by a Lacey police K-9 unit, court papers state. A female passenger in the vehicle remained in the area of the crash, but was unhurt, court papers state.
Collins was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.
Collins was wanted on felony warrants for maintaining a home for drug purposes and for possession of and distribution of a synthetic narcotic, court papers state. Also, the green Pontiac he was driving had been reported stolen. The police chase that led to his arrest reached speeds of 70 miles per hour on residential streets in Lacey.
Residents in the area of Rainier Vista reported an overwhelming police reponse as Collins drove through Rainier Vista Park. Court papers state the chase over the soccer fields reached speeds of 30 mph.
The chase started earlier in the afternoon after a Lacey police detective got a tip about Collins’ whereabouts and located him in the area of 24th Avenue. Collins fled in the stolen Pontiac after he saw a marked patrol car in the area, court papers state.
Collins was being held without bail Friday night at the Thurston County Jail.
