Skiers and snowboarders will have to wait a little longer for Crystal Mountain's new gondola and the reopening of Summit East.

_

Both projects were expected to be unveiled by Christmas but have been delayed.

Crystal’s $5.5 million gondola project was delayed when the cable stretched more than three feet. The cable needs to be tightened and re-spliced. The ski area’s operators hope to unveil the state’s first ski-area gondola next week.

 • Summit at Snoqualmie spokeswoman Holly Lippert says Summit East’s reopening has been delayed. Lipton didn’t explain the delay but said the ski area should open Jan. 8. It’s been closed since a landslide destroyed the main lift in January 2009.

 • The summit will hold the Webb Moffett Cup and its Masters Slalom Camp on Sunday and Monday.

 • Crystal will hold its annual ski with Santa event today and Sunday and will have a three-day freeride camp starting Sunday.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow daily until Tuesday.
