During the midterm elections, the Republicans stated the president was not listening to the American people. Correct me if I am wrong, but did the American people ask for you to hold them hostage in extending the Bush tax cuts for the middle class to make sure the wealthiest of people get a tax cut? You blame the Democrats for spending money the country does not have but create out of thin air almost a trillion dollars that we now have to add on to the debt. I hear that the tax cuts for the top 2 percent of the people will create jobs. This is not a new tax break, but a tax break that has been in place for the last 10 years. In the last three months during the Bush administration, this country lost 2.1 million jobs, and it has been a slow, long climb to get out of that hole.
But if this tax break to the top 2 percent of people will create jobs like you said, then where are the jobs? Is this a secret that you are keeping from the people that you say the president is not listening to? The tea party, members in your party, will not have to do much to win the next party nomination during the next election. You are handing over the bullet points to them. Quit whining and govern For the past few days, I have seen Gov. Chris Gregoire all over the media, teary-eyed, over having to make drastic cuts in the state budget.
The governor, and the state, are in no more of a quandary than most of the people in this country.
Responsible people live by a budget, and plan for rainy days. Even that kind of planning is sometimes not enough. But this state and many other liberal states in this union have been irresponsible, and now they are in trouble.
For the better part of the 45 years I have voted in this state, the Democrats have been in charge of the Legislature and or occupied the governor’s mansion, and they were not complaining then. They expanded state government to the point of unsustainability and added entitlement programs that now cannot be funded. The job of governing is not just for the good times. It is also for the bad times, and government should be limited. So, quit whining and get on with it. Bob Ducharme
