Flood warnings for several rivers in South Sound
Nate Hulings, staff writerThe National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for several rivers that run through South Sound as rain continues to fall in the region. Minor flooding is expected on the Skookumchuck River near Bucoda, according to the service. The river was expected to rise above flood stage about 7 p.m. Sunday and crest near 14.9 feet around 4 a.m. today before falling below flood stage early this afternoon. Several roads and low pasture lands could be flooded. The Deschutes River is also under a flood warning through this afternoon but was not forecast to reach flood stage. If the river does flood, minor flooding could occur, including some residential areas. Flooding on the Chehalis River near Grand Mound is possible, but the weather service is holding off on making a determination until it has more information. Warnings are also in effect for the Nisqually River near McKenna through Tuesday morning and through this afternoon for the Newaukum River near Chehalis. Six roads across Thurston County were closed Sunday due to flooding, according to a county news release.
