Schoenherr helps keep Rainier girls unbeaten in league play

PREP HIGHLIGHTS: Kristen Schoenherr scores 23 points as Mountaineers romp past Forks, 68-18

FORKS - Rainier remained unbeaten in Southwest Washington 1A League Evergreen Division play after its 68-18 girls basketball victory over Forks on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (11-3 overall, 8-0 SWW 1A), winners of seven straight and ranked No. 10 in Class 1A, led 24-3 after the first quarter and 38-8 at halftime.

Senior wing Kristen Schoenherr led all scorers with 23 points – right around her average of 21.2 points a game. Her sister, Kara, added 14 points.

River Ridge 74, Centralia 42: The second-ranked Hawks improved to 7-0 in Evergreen Conference play with a blowout win over the Tigers.

River Ridge shot 43 percent (29 of 66) from the floor and got 38 points from its bench. Four players scored in double figures – Necy Wade had 22 points, Kelsey Russell and Jasmine McDonald added 17 points each, and Rebecca Stevenson scored 10.

Chehalis 52, North Thurston 31: The Bearcats won their fourth straight game and defeated the Rams for the second time this season.

Chehalis, which upset No. 3 Tumwater, 43-39 on Saturday, got a game-high 14 points from 6-foot-3 post Jamika Parker. Ryan Tahl had 12 points, and Uriah Thomas had 10 for the Bearcats.

Chelsea Kindle led North Thurston with eight points.

Aberdeen 51, Black Hills 49: The Bobcats avenged an earlier loss, outscoring the Wolves 18-9 in the final quarter to squeak out the two-point win.

Izzy Campbell had 17 points, and Hope Martensen scored 10 for Black Hills, which led 18-5 early.

BOYS BASKETBALL

River Ridge 72, Centralia 54: The Hawks outscored the visiting Tigers 19-5 in the third quarter to pull away and keep Centralia winless in EvCo play.

River Ridge’s Brad Wallace led all scorers with 21 points. Rahmel Moton had 16 points, and Isaac Lucas scored 11 for the Hawks (10-5, 6-1).

Rainier 51, Forks 39: Brandon Eygabroad had 15 points, and Matt Tietjen scored 14 as the Mountaineers won their third straight game.

Rainier (7-6, 4-3) remained in fifth place in the SWW 1A Evergreen Division.

Northwest Christian 80, Naselle 58: The Navigators scored a season-high in points on the way to their third straight victory. One night after upsetting No. 4-ranked South Bend at home, NWC jumped out to a 24-12 lead over the Comets and had four players finish in double figures. Zach Carras led the way with 18 points.

Chehalis 69, North Thurston 66: The Bearcats, led with three players in double figures, beat the Rams for the second time this season.

Matt Reid led North Thurston with 23 points. Landon Rushton added 15 points, and Ben Broeker scored 14 for the Rams, who dropped to 3-4 in the EvCo.
