January 27, 2011

OLYMPIA - Capital used a strong fourth-quarter surge to pull away from Wilson in the final four minutes for a 69-55 3A Narrows League girls basketball victory Wednesday night at Capital High School.

Kelsey Antles was one of four Cougars who scored in double figures with a game-high 21 points in what coach Colleen Wells called a “huge shooting night” for her senior guard.

Antles was 6-for-9 from the field, 9-of-10 from the free throw line, and also had four steals, four assists and six rebounds.

Aria Goodman and Kendel Wilkerson had 15 points apiece and Kristyn Ross had 14.

The win puts Capital in a tie for third with Wilson in the league standings with four regular-season games to play.

Capital trailed by two going into the final quarter, but with 4 minutes, 10 seconds remaining in the game, the Cougars took over.

Capital outscored Wilson 27-11 in the final quarter on 15-of-17 accuracy from the free-throw line and 2-of-4 shooting from the field.

“It was amazing team defense, and amazing team offense,” Wells said. “They were seeing the open person, driving and looking for the best shot and making good passes.”
