Craig Hill, Staff writerCrystal Mountain added six new cabins to the Mount Rainier Gondola this week. The gondola now has the capacity to move 650 people per hour up the mountain. Crystal opened the $5.5 million gondola, the first at any Washington ski area, on Jan. 1. The gondola features 22 8-person cabins with plans to add 10 more. Gondola tickets cost $8 in addition to a $65 ski lift ticket. Scenic gondola riders are $17 for adults and $8 for children. • Saturday is Ski With Shawn Kemp day at Ski Bluewood near Dayton. The former Seattle SuperSonic will ski, sign autographs and play H-O-R-S-E in the lodge at 3 p.m. He will promote 3BA International, a new 3-on-3 basketball league that begins play in June. One of the cofounders of the league is a season pass holder at Ski Bluewood, said resort general manager Travis Stephenson. • The Summit at Snoqualmie will host a skate contest, the Gnar at the Bar, tonight at 8 in the Timberwolf Bar and Grill. Festivities will include a best-trick contest and an in-line skating demonstration. The Summit will also host youth snowboard camps Saturday and Sunday. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Saturday and is $150 for season pass holders or $210 for those who need lift tickets. Crystal will have movie night Saturday at 7 in the chapel. The movie will be the 2006 Disney cartoon “The Wild.” • It’s as good a weekend as any to head to Paradise or Hurricane Ridge. Paradise is reported more than 140 inches of snow while Hurricane Ridge is reporting more than 95. After a week of snow, the National Weather Service is predicting blue skies Saturday in the mountains followed by more snow Saturday night through Tuesday.
