Sunny side hard to find in 73-11 loss

Trailing 26-2 after the first quarter, Mary M. Knight lost 73-11 to Sunnyside Christian Thursday in the girls 1B state tournament in Spokane.

Sunnyside Christian held the Owls from Matlock to two points in each of the first two quarters and led 47-4 at halftime.

It’s the fewest points scored by a team in the 1B tournament, breaking the record of 15 points set by three teams.

Mary M. Knight (11-13) plays Neah Bay at 9 a.m. today in a loser-out game. Sunnyside Christian (21-3) advances to the semifinals against Colton, a 67-34 winner against Neah Bay.

Sunnyside Christian forced 39 turnovers and had a 45-2 edge in points off turnovers.

In the other semifinal game, Columbia (Hunters) faces Almira/Coulee-Hartline at 5:30 p.m. today.

Mary M. Knight has been to the state tournament in four of the last five years.
