Weekend getaway: Spree at Alpental

What: The event gives snowriders a chance to test out new gear and raise funds for Outdoors For All. The 14th annual event is a mix of snow sports, races, music, food and entertainment. Manufacturers such as Atomic, Burton, Fischer, Head, K2, Rossignol and Salomon will be on hand with 2012 gear to demo.

When: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday

Where: Alpental ski area at The Summit at Snoqualmie

Getting there: Take Interstate 90 east to Exit 52 for Summit West and Alpental.

History: The Outdoors For All Foundation provides year-round outdoor recreation instruction for people with physical, developmental and sensory disabilities. The group’s programming includes snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, cycling, hiking, river rafting, canoeing and kayaking, day camps, water skiing, rock-climbing and camping. In 2009, the event drew more than 500 people and brought in more than $40,000.

Cost: $79 for individuals and $1,000 for teams. Participants get unlimited use of ski, snowboard and snowshoe demo gear, a day lift ticket, event T-shirt, continental breakfast, Red Robin lunch and entrance into the aprs ski party complete with beer garden, music and chances to win prizes.
