Weekend Getaway: Foothills Dash

What: This fun run on the Foothills Trail starts and finishes at Ptarmigan Ridge Elementary School in Orting. There are 5- and 10-kilometer races. There also will be a free one-mile run for ages 12 and younger. The trail is paved, wide and mostly flat.

When: Saturday, check-in starts at 8 a.m. Race starts at 9 a.m.

Where: Orting Eagles Lodge, 112 Bridge St. S., Orting.

Getting there: Follow state Route 162 into Orting. The lodge is near where the highway becomes Bridge Street.

Cost: $20 to enter, $15 for T-shirt

Also: Proceeds will benefit Pierce County recreation programs for people with special needs. Race sponsors will supply refreshments. The top three male and female finishers will get prizes.
