Federal aid for flooding available to 7 counties

Federal disaster aid is available to seven Washington counties for flooding and mudslide damage from January storms.

Gov. Chris Gregoire says the declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency ensures federal help for damages expected to run into the millions of dollars.

The counties are King, Kittitas, Klickitat, Lewis, Skagit, Skamania and Wahkiakum.

With the declaration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development said it would offer support to homeowners and low-income renters forced from their homes. HUD also granted a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures on FHA-insured mortgages on homes of displaced families.
