Weekend getaway: Anniversary Volksmarch

What: The Daffodil Valley Volks-sport Association celebrates its 25th anniversary with 5K and 10K walks in Puyallup.

Where: Start at Allemdinger Hall, Washington State University Research Center, 2606 W. Pioneer Way.

When: Start between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and finish by 4 p.m.

Getting there: From Interstate 5, take Exit 135 on to state Route 167/River Road. Turn right onto 66th Avenue East. Turn right onto Stewart Avenue East. Turn left onto Pioneer Way East. Turn left onto 72nd Street East/Pioneer Way East. Continue to follow Pioneer Way East as it becomes Pioneer Way West. From state Route 512, take the Puyallup Pioneer Avenue exit. Go left on Pioneer, through downtown about 2 miles. Turn left into the WSU Research Center.

Cost: Free, $3 if you want to receive credit for the walk.

Of note: There will be cake and the first 400 participants also can pick up free tickets to the Puyallup Spring Fair. There will be a “Critter Checklist” scavenger hunt for kids.

History: The group meets the second Monday of the month at the Puyallup Library, 324 S. Meridian Ave., Puyallup.
