We need to protect community jobs

April 25, 2011

What would happen if every voter in our state understood the role of state and federal governments before they voted?

Imagine a population that demanded clean air, water, excellent education and transportation systems, law enforcement, social health, safety and food programs. Then imagine a population that understood that state and federal employees provide these services.

Thirty years of making the rich richer has not given state or federal governments enough money to do their jobs. If we lay off a bunch of state workers, where will they find jobs? Walmart?

If you lay off the middle class where will the tax base come from for the services they’ll need when they join the welfare lines?

Support local businesses, not box stores. We need our area teachers, state laborers, social workers, health care professionals and environmental specialists more than we need more millionaires we refuse to tax.
